Many people do not believe that either God or the Devil exists. But the fact that people don’t believe in them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I can’t see your mind either, but I assume you have one, otherwise you couldn’t speak, think, read, etc.
I believe that the Devil’s greatest success is that he has convinced people that he doesn’t exist. That way, he can kill, make people ill, destroy and bring incredible suffering upon mankind. But what do people do? They blame God and not the devil, the liar, the destroyer. Isn’t God greater than the Devil? Of course He is, but most people don’t want to know anything about God and have thrown HIM out of their life. In that case, God doesn’t have to interfere with their life either, because they banned Him from their life, without any kind of room to maneuver. You want to do whatever you please, don’t you? We are strange creatures.
We see Satan at the start of the Bible as a snake in Paradise, who deceives Eve with the statement: “Yes, did God really say that you shouldn’t eat from all of the trees in the garden?” What does Satan do? He brings distrust and rebellion against God, and he’s really an expert in that.
Who is Satan? Why did God create him? That’s what many people ask. God never created Satan; it was Lucifer, one of the most beautiful angels. In Isaiah 14:12-14 we read: How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” Here we see Satan’s fall. He was one of the most beautiful, strong and important angels, but he wanted to be like God. He wanted to be God. What does he do today? He whispers to people: “You don’t need a God, you yourself are God.” The snake knows what people like to hear.
We see how Satan is strong in doing his task in the story of Job. What does he do? He stands before God and accuses Job, a righteous man. God lets Satan strike Job with illness, in order to test his faithfulness; but he also rewards Job by giving twice as much as he has lost, because Job remains faithful to God. What would we have done? Rejected God forever, as many people do. In Ephesians Chapter 6:10-17, we read that Satan has an army and that God has given us armor to fight against him. It says: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Who are the rulers, the authorities, the powers of the world, the evil in the heavenly realms? They are the fallen angels, demons who belong to Satan’s army and depending on their task and power, have a higher or lower rank. What makes them fallen angels? They plague people, deceive them, and destroy their life. One day, they will torture the people who do not believe in Jesus in hell. Is there a solution?
That’s why Jesus came. There on the cross, he defeated Satan and took the keys of death and hell out of his hands. Those who believe in Jesus Christ don’t need to be afraid, because they have God’s weapons in their hands: God’s Word, Jesus’s blood and His name. The Devil fears those things and so he tries to convince people that they don’t need a God or the Bible, because they themselves are gods. Oh, you poor people who believe that.
Once more: God placed this earth under the administration of Adam and Eve. Mankind lost their rule over the earth with their fall into sin and became a slave of Satan. Who rules the world? The Bible says: Satan, the god of the world, blinded mankind’s senses, so that they cannot see the bright light of Christ’s glory, Christ who is the image of God. Who rules the world? Satan, the deceiver and destroyer.
Those who believe in Jesus Christ are not ruled by Satan. That’s the reason why Satan is agitating people to be against the followers of Jesus.
Satan and his demons move between Heaven and hell. In between the two is earth, his most important area of action. In John’s Revelation (the Apocalypse), we see how the Archangel Michael will throw Satan, together with other angels, definitely from heaven and it says: “The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels [demons] with him… But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.” This event is still to come. Can you imagine what will come over the earth, when Satan is thrown from heaven to the earth? The earth will suffer like never before. Thanks to God that Jesus is coming back, to put an end to Satan’s rule and to take over.
Those who know and love Jesus Christ do not need to be afraid, because the Devil fears the blood of Jesus, the name of Jesus and God’s Word. Read God’s Word as much as you can, ask God to cover you and your family with Jesus’s blood and to protect you, and then hell will shake, because Jesus’s name is above all names and all power is in Jesus’s blood. Jesus’s blood can release everyone from the Devil’s power. Believers have defeated him (Satan) through the blood of the lamb (Jesus) and through the word of their testimony and have not loved their life until death.
